Blog # 2.9 - Process Journal # 4

In order to complete this project, my partner and I will need 2 toy dolls (guy and girl) and a stuffed animal. We will also need scissors, construction paper, and markers. The construction paper is for the background which will depict a city. The music that will enhance our animation is the instrumental for Halo. We have chosen this music because it is symbolic for our story. There will be a hero saving the day. I think the sound of the song fits with our theme.

Blog # 2.7 - Process Journal # 2

For Criteria F - Attitudes in Technology, I would give my parter and I a 6. I would score our work in class a 6 because we both displayed a "satisfactory standard in both of the aspects listed above." Brittany and I both worked on the Storyboard Handout together and each contributed to the planning of our movie. I wrote about the characters and the overall main idea of the storyline. She wrote why we chose our title and and the setting of the film and our soundtrack. We equally distributed what we are going to bring in for the next class.

Blog # 2.8 - Process Journal # 3

The storyline that my partner and I have decided to go with is an action figure who acts as the super hero has to save the day. The action figure is saving the day from a stuffed animal who acts as the villain. This storyline was my idea and my partner and I agreed to do it for this project. The super hero is walking around and his attention is immediately drawn to the stuffed animal causing havoc upon the city. He has to save his lady friend from the villain.

Blog # 2.6 - Brainstorm

For this movie, I thought about using an action figure. The action figure will just be minding his business until he realizes that something is wrong. The background will be buildings and he will be alerted and then soar into action. Another character in this movie would be a stuffed animal. The stuffed animal will be the villain. The action figure would attack the stuffed animal and stand victorious by it. The background music would be either Hero by Nickelback or Hero by Skillet.

Blog # 2.5 - Process Journal #1

For this project, I am working with Brittany Steele. For the execution of this project, I am thinking of using an action figure to go into action. It will be walking and realize it needs to save the day. So the action figure will jolt into the air and rescue another little person.

Blog # 1.16 -

Throughout this creative process, I've learned that Im willing to contribute in any way to projects. I've also learned that I pick good teammates. I was able to work with them and get our project done on time. I do consider myself a creative person sometimes. During this project, I thought I wasnt going to contribute much creativity to the game. But with my game cards, I wanted to make a little design so that the cards wouldn't look plain and I got good responses for doing so. Im also creative because of the fact that I enjoy writing so Im creating something. I demonstrate my creativity by thikig of ways to make something look better or even sound better.

Blog # 2.1 - Stop Animation Investigation

1. What is stop motion?
This is a technique that is used to make any object moved on its own.

2. How is motion created using stop motion animation?
Motion is created when you put it into individual frames and play them in a sequence.

3. What material is needed to create stop motion animation?
The materials needed to create stop motion animation is a camera, any type of clay, small objects, wire, block figures, or string.

4. How is stop motion animation different from other forms of movies?
Stop animation is different because it allows you to see what is happening frame by frame. In other forms of movies, it is actually being filmed. With stop motion, you use objects and and take various pictures to include.

5. Describe the steps you need to follow in order to create a stop animation film.
To create a stop animation film, you must first get the needed figures that you will include. Make sure to set up the figures in whatever position youd like it to be. Then you take your camera and set it up where you want to take the pictures at. You must make sure the camera is steady or else your photos will not come out right. The lighting around you must be good too.

6. What objects are used in the films?
The objects that are used in the first film are a stuffed cat, another stuffed animal, and a little rocket ship. In the 2nd film, colored letters, a shirt, tie, pants, socks, and dress are used.

7. How is music used to tell the story in both animations?
In both animations, music lightens the mood of them. In the first one with the stuffed cat, there was an appropriate song to go along with what the cat was doing. It showed him a lot in space on the rocket and looking at the moon and the song had something to do with that. In the second film, they are preparing for a wedding and the music is uplifting.

8. What is the overall story in both of the films?
In the first film, the cat has dreams about going to the moon. It eventually gets to go to the moon on a little rocket.

In the second film, a couple is preparing to go to a wedding. They are getting dressed and drive over to the wedding. The wedding invitation is shown as well.

Blog # 1.15 - Process Journal # 9

For the most part, we were able to stick to our plan for the completion of this project. We just had to extend the time for the completion of the cards because we were clearing up some discreptancies about the layout for them. Everything else was completed on time except for getting the colored dice.

Blog # 1.14 - Process Journal # 8

Our final game is very similar to the original design. One difference is that the last color on the final game is purple and the last color on the original design is red. The card holders will be at 2 of the corners of the gameboard as originally planned. On the original design, the colors were as followed green, yellow, blue, red, purple and orange. On the final game, the colors are red, green, orange, blue, yellow, and purple.

Blog # 1.12 - Process Journal # 5

My team and I have completed most of our tasks. Yaritza has completed our gameboard. I made the scrap paper and completed my orange and purple cards. Sadae and Yaritza were continuing to work on their cards. Sadae bought the dice and we still have to look for colors to put on it. Sadae brought the box holders for the cards. For the most part, we have completed most of our tasks,

Blog # 1.11 - Process Journal # 4

The developments that my team and I have made towards the execution of our project is figuring out what each of us are going to do. We figured out how to create the cards and what dice needs to be used. For the next class, we have to still work on our individual parts. Before next week, we have to work on our cards, gameboard, and collect other pieces. I have to work on the orange and purple cards. Yaritza has to work on the green and yellow cards and Sadae works on the red and blue cards. All three of us have to work on the gameboard. Sadae has to work on getting the dice. I have to collect the scrap paper. Yaritza has to make the game pieces. I've had certain difficulties. I think that thinking of questions for history is a little hard. I will try to research more in order to finish my cards.

Blog 1.10 - Process Journal # 3

My team and I have added specific details to our project. We came up with the number of tiles that should be on the board and the number of each color as well. I have started to design my cards. I came up with the idea of having the answer, upside down on the back of the card. Also, there will be multiple choice on the front. Yaritza put together the whole presentation. We will divide the presentation so that we each have a part. Our cards and game pieces are the same. My design for the cards will be used and Yaritza's designs for the game board and game pieces will be used.

Blog # 1.9 - Process Journal # 3

I believe that the only challenge we are facing is the gameboard. We still need to figure out the actual design and specific details of the gameboard such as the number of spaces. The IB learner qualities that the members of my team are exhibiting in a positive manner are Thinkers and Communicators. We each communicate our ideas to one another and think about different designs. We also talk about them and plan our game out. We are still working on developing Inquirers and Open Minded. We have to start researching how to word our questions so that the 6th graders will understand. We also have to be more accepting of others' ideas. My greatest strength is that I contribute to the discussion. I need improving on accepting others' ideas and considering their ideas.

Blog # 1.8 - Design Justification

My team and I decided to use my design for the cards. We all thought that it looked the best and was very detailed. My team and I also decided to use Yaritza's design for the game pieces. There was a variety of game pieces that she had designed such as a car and book. Lastly, we chose to use Yaritza's draft of a game board as our game board. We felt that the board was pretty self-explanatory. It had the six colors that we are going to use (red, blue, green, purple, orange, and yellow.)

Blog # 1.7c - Possible Designs

I briefly looked over Sadae Livingston's paper and saw her cards. We did not get a chance to work on our gameboard since we had drafted it before. Her cards looked decent, but, I personally liked my cards and Yaritza's cards better with the question on the front and the answer on the back, upside down.

Blog # 1.7b - Possible Designs

Yaritza Burgos also designed the game cards and game pieces. My game cards and her game cards were a little similar so I liked it. Her game pieces were all different. One game piece was a car and another was a book. I thought that the 4 game pieces should all be the same. I think that she should work on her game pieces, but, keep her cards the same.

Blog #1.7a - Possible Designs

I designed the game cards and the game pieces. For the game pieces, I kept it simple. I made them have a circular bottom and sort of rectangular top poking out. I also designed two types of cards for the two subjects (Math and History.) The yellow cards represented history and focused on the names of states. The green cards represented math and focused on multiplication. The front contained the question and the answer in the back. There will be 6 different color cards and the font will be in white.

Blog # 1.6 - Process Journal # 2

The score that I would give myself would be a 4. I would give a 5 to the members of my team. I would give myself a 4 because at times I did not cooperate well with one of my teammates. I kept a positive attitude most of the time. We all worked well together in planing our game. I think that next time I should cooperate more with my teammates so that there will never be any tesion between us.

Blog # 1.4 - Design Specification

I, along with my group members (Yaritza Burgos and Sadae Livingston), are going to create a board game for 6th graders. The purpose of this is to help educate them in Mathematics and Social Studies. We will be using a recycled board, six packs of cards that we will create on index cards, pencils, scrap paper, 4 game pieces, 2 boxes to serve as place holders for the cards, and 2 die. Our board game will be very simple so that the 6th graders will not be confused.

Blog # 1.3 - Process Journal #1

For this project, I am working in a group with Yaritza Burgos and Sadae Livingston. So far, we have been discussing what topics to use in our game. Social Studies will be used and maybe Math. We've already decided that we want to make it a board game. Recently, we created a survery for kids 10-12 to answer so that we can create our game that is suitable for 6th graders.

Blog # 1.2 - Design Task

Our task is to create an educational game for 6th graders. It can be a board game, card game, etc. It can include the subjects that are learned in school such as math, english, and science. We have to make sure that we use information that 6th graders know that isnt too challenging for them.

Blog #1.1 - Game Evaluation

1. What game(s) did your group play today?

a. Bingo
b. Scattergories
c. 24
d. Sorry

2. Briefly describe how your game works. What is the objective of the game?

a. In Bingo, each player gets their own Bingo card and a few pieces to place on the card. No Bingo cards are the same. There is a black container that someone spins. It is filled with balls that have different numbers on them such as "B 17" and such. When one ball comes out, someone reads it a loud and the players check their cards for that number. If you have that number, you put one of your pieces on it. The objective of the game is to have five pieces on the card vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Once this happens, you yell "Bingo."
b. In Scattergories, each player has their own folder. They each get the same card and a paper marked "One, Two, Three" for the rounds. There is a timer. Someone must roll the die. When the die lands on a particular letter, each player has to look at their card and see what it is asking for. You must answer everything starting with the letter from the die.
c. In 24, the players each have to look at a particular card. They must use the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with the numbers on the card to get 24. Each number on the card has to be used once. When one of the players thinks they have the answer, they must say it aloud and they then the receive the card for points.
d. In Sorry, you must get all four of your pieces into the "Home" area. You start off at "Start." There will be cards placed in the middle of the board that tell you which direction to move in and how many spaces. You can also switch places with another players' piece.

3. Were the rules clear? If not, what made them hard to understand?

a. The rules for Bingo were pretty self explanatory. You dont really need to look over the rules to figure out how to play the game.
b. The rules for Scattergories were pretty confusing at first. What made them hard was writing down the words that start with a certain letter. But as the game progressed, I got the hang of it.
c. The rules for 24 were simple. You had to use mathematical operations and the numbers once to get 24.
d. The rules for Sorry were kind of confusing at first as well. I understood it after a few seconds on how to move the piece and that sliding it was worth one space.

4. Was the board attractive, colorful, etc.?

a. The Bingo cards were okay. They were red and white. The pieces that you had to put on the cards were pretty colorful.
b. I liked the color of the folders for Scattergories. They were red.
c. For 24, the cards were blue, the numbers were black, and what the numbers were placed in was yellow. I like the colors.
d. I liked the Sorry board and I liked the different color pieces. It was all colorful.

5. What is one positive element of the game?

a. One positive element of Bingo is that the numbers are selected at random. I think that gives each player an equal chance of winning.
b. One positive element of Scattergories is that the game gives you a lot of time to write down your answers.
c. One positive element of 24 is that you are looking at the cards and you can use any mathematical operation to get 24.
d. One positive element of Sorry is the certain card that tell you to move a lot of spaces which is helpful for when you are trying to get "Home."

6. What is one specific thing that can be improved?

a. One specific thing that can be improved in Bingo is nothing. It is fine the way it is.
b. One specific thing that can be improved in Scattergories is to maybe extend the time more.
c. One specific thing that can be improved in 24 is if each person can get their own cards. Everyone would get the same card instead of everyone just looking at one card.
d. One specific thing that can be improved in Sorry is nothing because the rules seem pretty clear.

7. What age group is this game for? How could this game be altered to make it appropriate for a younger audience? How could this game be altered to make it appropriate for an older audience?
a. I think that Bingo is for kids ages 10 and up. I think this because younger kids may get bored easily with this game. This game doesnt need to be altered to be appropriate for an older audience. For a younger audience, I think that this game should have like a computer voice saying the numbers.
b.I think that Scattergories is for kids ages 10 and up as well because it requires a lot of thinking. This game could be altered for kids by having kids categories. To be altered for an older audience, the categories must be more challenging.
c. For 24, it is for ages 9 and up because it uses the knowledge of basic math. For a younger audience, the game should be more simplier to get 24. For an older audience, it should be more difficult to get 24.
d. For Sorry, it's for ages 9 and up. I dont think it needs to be altered for a younger audience. For an older audience, the directions on the cards should be more difficult.

8. What element(s) of the game(s) that you played may be integrated into your game?

a. I might use the random selecting that is used Bingo.
b. I might require there to be writing for the answers just like in Scattergories.
c. I might consider using cards and having all the players think for the answers like in 24.
d. I think I will use a board for my game just like in Sorry.
